Taekwon-Do was introduced in India by V.Mohandas and started coaching classes in Chennai. It gradually spread to other South-Indian states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
All India Taekwan-Do Federation (AITF) was formed in 1978 and AITF conducted National Championships in 1978, 79 and 1980. AITF masters travelled across India to spread awareness about Taekwondo.
Indian Taekwon-Do legends:
Mohandas left India in 1983 and AITF was taken care by V. Panneerselvan and G. Balakrishna in Tamil Nadu and B.V. Ramanaiah in Andhra Pradesh. Chandrasekhar ran AITF operations in Karnataka.

All India Taekwon-Do Association (AITA) was formed in 1985 and started conducting National Championships. Master Leongwaimeng played major role in the formation of AITA.
After Delhi National Championship in 1989, AITA name was changed to TAI (Taekwon-Do Association of India) which is still conducting National Championships under the leadership of Master B.V. Ramanaiah.
